RM of Lajord’s story
The Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128 was incorporated on December 13, 1909. It lies in the southeast part of Saskatchewan, and its hamlets include Davin, Gray, Kronau, Riceton and Lajord, where the RM office is found.
Some of the area's earliest settlement is still marked on the land. In 1896, German-Russian Lutheran homesteaders established the cemetery now known as the Kronau Bethlehem Heritage Cemetery, formerly the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, near the hamlet of Kronau. It sits close to the site of a one-room school house where the settlers held services until a church was built.
Another landmark is the church and grotto at St. Peter's Colony, built in 1905 as a church and shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes. Together with the cemetery, it is one of three historical buildings or sites recognized as heritage properties within the municipality.
